About the lecture

Topological structures based on controllable domain holds important implications for the future development of microelectronic devices such as high-density memories. A number of novel topological polar structures such as flux-closure and vortex domain structures are recently discovered in ferroelectric heterostructures, while solid experimental evidence is rare on how to manipulate them. Here we report the successful atomic scale mappings of the real time dynamic evolution of both ferroelectric polarization and charge using a combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) during electric switching among various domain configurations, including the polar vortex arrays, polar wave and out-of-plane polarization.
