International Conference on Children’s Rights: From a Protected to an Empowered Childhood (21-22 November 2019, Leuven)
The Law and Development Research Group co-organizes on 21 and 22 November 2019 a conference on 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This conference aims to honour the 30th anniversary of the CRC by bringing together a multidisciplinary group of experts on children’s rights in order to explore jointly the evolution of the CRC as it relates to child empowerment, the most urgent issues that currently affect it, and the direction that it should take in the future.
There are dedicated panels to political, social, economic and personal empowerment, as well as on empowerment and the CRC, and on child activism. Speakers include Manfred Liebel, Julia Sloth-Nielsen, David Archard, Kasey McCall-Smith, Gerison Lansdown, Kay Tisdall and many others. Gamze Erdem Türkelli and Wouter Vandenhole of the Law and Development Research Group will deliver the opening keynote and chair the closing panel.
