GIStorical Antwerp infrastructure: phase II
5 October 2016
New PhD-project which is embedded in the development of the GIStorical Antwerp infrastructure (phase II) from Centre for Urban History- member Rogier van Kooten.
GIStorical Antwerp II continues the creation of a spatial digital infrastructure, which not only integrates a large amount of historical data informing us on the urban past, but also allows a rapid social contextualization of data by using a Geographical Information System (GIS).
In order to test the GIStorical Antwerp II infrastructure, Rogier van Kooten will try to develop a socio-spatial approach of Antwerp’s so called urban-rural fringe between 1585 and 1800 and against the background of profound economic and demographic developments. A specific emphasis will be on forms of urban agriculture and the socio-spatial link between the inner city and the area outside the city walls.
