PA&M goes to Rotterdam.
Friday 16 September, we went on a research group excursion to Rotterdam. Vidar and Tom took us on a guided tour through their beloved city. We passed the Coolsingel and Koopgoot, took a look at the Maritime Museum, crossed the well-known Erasmus bridge, to finally arrive in the ‘Kop van Zuid’ district, where ‘de Rotterdam’, designed by Rem Koolhaas, is located. The building houses a hotel, apartments and office space, but the main user is the government. After rising to the 27th floor and enjoying the beautiful view, we got an introduction to the national policy- and actionplan ‘Rotterdam Zuid’. This plan was started to decrease poverty and criminality in the South district of Rotterdam. ‘Rotterdam Zuid’ is a real example of multi-governance action where national and local governments are working together with schools, healthcare providers, social housing providers and local business.
