Expert input for Council of Europe Migration Committee

On 8 December 2017, Wouter Vandenhole, member of the Law and Development Research Group, has provided expert input to the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The Committee is in the process of preparing a report on Integration, empowerment and protection of migrant children through compulsory education. Vandenhole outlined the human rights and children’s rights framework for education of migrant children. He emphasised the need to provide access to education regardless of migration status, and highlighted the importance of not only primary, but also secondary education. The Committee’s report is due in Spring 2018.
