IOB welcomes 2 new FWO aspirants

Introduction: The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) has granted two new fellowships for PhD students at the Institute of Development Policy (IOB). We are very proud to welcome Eliane Giezendanner and Fergus Simpson into the IOB family starting October 1st 2018.

Eliane Giezendanner will be working on her PhD with the title Demobilizing Mindsets: Ideas and Ideology after War. A Case Study on Rwandan FDLR Rebels under the supervision of Bert Ingelaere, Rwanda-expert and chair of the Great Lakes of Africa Centre at the IOB.

Fergus Simpson will be working on the issue of natural resources and mining in his PhD with the title Socio-ecological resilience: a new perspective for artisanal and small-scale mining? He will be supervised by Sara Geenen, expert in the field of the political economy and ecology of artisanal mining and co-director of ECA-CREAC and CEGEMI. Co-supervisor will be Kristof Titeca, lecturer at IOB with expertise in governance and conflict in DRC and Uganda. Kristof is also project leader for the Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium program in the DRC.
