Human Rights Impact Assessment Flemish Universities
10 December 2019
Vandenhole advises universities in Flanders on human rights impact of their activities and collaborations.
Wouter Vandenhole of the Law and Development Research Group is a member of a working group on human rights that advises Flemish universities on the risks of being involved in human rights violations through their activities and external collaborations. On the occasion of Human Rights Day on 10 December 2019, the working group has released its first report, in which it recommends the introduction of a human rights impact assessment.
The report is currently only available in Dutch, and publicly available on the VLIR website (scroll down to ‘Mensenrechtentoets’). At the end of 2020, the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) will assess how the Flemish universities have implemented a human rights impact assessment policy.
