3. Course contents *

The course Statistics II encompasses an introduction to multivariate statistics. Following an introduction into SPSS (Faculty of Social Sciences) or Stata (Faculty of Business & Economics/Social-economic Sciences), the following techniques for multivariate analysis are discussed:

  • Analysis of Association & Statistical Control;
  • Bivariate & Multiple Regression Analysis;
  • Regression with Dummy-variables & Analysis of Variance;
  • Logistic Regression & Multinomial Logit Models;
  • Principal Components Analysis & Principal Axis Factoring

The course encompasses theoretical lectures and computer practicals involving databases from various empirical studies (European Social Survey, Surveys Migration History and Social Mobility, Health Interview Survey, 2001 Census). The course concludes with a written exam made up a theoretical part and a practical part.
