### 1. Prerequisites *

At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:

an active knowledge of

- competences corresponding the final attainment level of secondary school

an active knowledge of

- Dutch

- English

### 2. Learning outcomes *

- You can work with matrices and vectors.
- You can reduce mathematical problems to problems in linear algebra.
- You can solve systems of linear equations and interpret them geometrically.

### 3. Course contents *

Linear algebra is the mathematical technology used in a wide variety of applications: Google's page rank algorithm, image compression, coding theory applies in CDs, models in biology and economy, to name a few.

We will teach you to work with vectors and matrices, compute their invariants and canonical forms and interprete those geometrically. We will givbe several practical applications of these methods.
