3. Course contents *

After an introduction to the subject, the formalism and postulates of quantumchemistry are worked through.

Topics treated are:

  • The Schroedinger's equation
  • Hermitian operators, eigenvalues and eigenvectors and uncertainty relations.
  • The one and three dimensional particle in a box
  • The harmonic oscillator
  • The angular momentum operator
  • The hydrogen atom and the spin of the electron.
  • The variational principle and selectionrules
  • An introduction to symmetry operators and point groups.
