### 1. Prerequisites *

- competences corresponding the final attainment level of secondary school

an active knowledge of

- Dutch

- English

- general knowledge of the use of a PC and the Internet

specific prerequisites for this course

During high school, the students should have been given mathematics for at least 4h/w, physics 2h/w, chemistry 2h/w and biologie 2h/w. Furthermore it is a prerequisite that the student is enthousiastic and has a positive attitude regarding science courses.

### 2. Learning outcomes *

- The main objective of Physics is to train the student in comprehensive knowledge gaining regarding the mechanisms and scientific patterns that are the basis of physical phenomena and which are at the basis of physiology, biomechanics, chemistry, etc.
- students learn how to critically analyse scientific problems;
- students learn to be able to independently conduct simple experiments and to deal with imperfections of the curent techniques (i.e., perform appropriate statistical analysis of experimental results);
- students learn how to generate a scientific report.

### 3. Course contents *

The course consists of two parts:

- introduction into mathematical methods (derivatives, integrals, differential equations, vector calculus, series)
- basic principles of physics

Medical physics deals with: mechanics,elasticity, vibrations, electrostatics, hydrostatics, heat transport and radiation, molecular dynamics, diffusion and osmosis, and Thermodynamics and entropy.
