3. Course contents *

The formalisms of Lagrange and Hamilton, introduced in the course "Introduction analytical mechanics", are studied in depth, with emphasis on the importance of symmetry and conserved quantities. Further cacnonical transformations and the Hamilton-Jacobi equation are introduced. Free and forced oscillations are studied extensively, including the influence of anharmonic effects. Further the special theory of relativity is covered. Finally, an introduction to non-linear dynamics is presented.
