3. Course contents *

The following subjects are discussed: 

The ISO-OSI model of a layered network architecture 

The physical layer: study of a signal 

The Medium Access Control (MAC) layer: a number of basic MAC algorithms are studied: ALOHA, Ethernet, IEEE802.11 

The Link layer: study of the following functions of this layer: fault detection (CRC), flow control (stop and wait protocol, sliding window protocol, meerdere ARQ protocols) 

The Network layer: study of the IP protocol 

The Transport layer: study of the protocols TCP en UDP 


In the exercises, the concepts/mechanisms/algorithms/protocols discussed in the theory part are further explained by means of examples and exercises.
