The following subjects are discussed:

The ISO-OSI model of a layered network architecture

The physical layer: study of a signal

The Medium Access Control (MAC) layer: a number of basic MAC algorithms are studied: ALOHA, Ethernet, IEEE802.11

The Link layer: study of the following functions of this layer: fault detection (CRC), flow control (stop and wait protocol, sliding window protocol, meerdere ARQ protocols)

The Network layer: study of the IP protocol

The Transport layer: study of the protocols TCP en UDP

In the exercises, the concepts/mechanisms/algorithms/protocols discussed in the theory part are further explained by means of examples and exercises.
