During introductory sessions, you learn how best to go about for increasing your knowledge of fauna and flora. You become familiar with several identififcation methods, particularly the use of identification keys. During field excursions, you learn to recognise animals and plants on the spot, or you take them to lab for further study.

Towards the end of the year, you can instantly recognise the most important plant families and you can identify groups of animals and plants using identification keys. The course continues into the second year when you will learn how to identify these groups at a more detailed level. Towards the end of the second year, you need to prepare your own herbarium.
