3. Course contents *

The following topics are addressed:
- design and planning of field projects
- use of maps and GIS
- safety in field conditions
- permits and ethical aspects
- data management, analysis, quality control
- accuracy, calibration and use of field instruments

In addition, short overviews are given of specific methods for collecting abiotic and biotic data, including micro- and macroclimate parameters, abundance and distribution of organisms, methods for trapping and sampling animals. These methods are illustrated in exercises and field excursions.
Finally, students write a research plan for an assigned research question, where all of the above aspects (where relevant) are incorporated.
