3. Course contents *

In the chapter on Kinematics we introduce the physical concepts of velocity, acceleration, mass, center of mass, inertial tensor etc. Then we develop the  principles of mechanics in a systematical and deductive way, starting from general assumptions  about observation, reality, symmetry and relativity. From the principle of least action we then deduce the equations of motion of Euler-Lagange and from these the laws of conservation. We derive the equations of motion for systems with boundary conditions  and apply these to the motion of the rigid body, the motion of a masspoint on a curve and the pendulum. Finally we treat the two body problem in detail with application to the planetary motion and the theory of collisions.
