At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:

Sufficient knowledge of calculus, vector-and matrix calculus, differential operators, differential equations.

- Porblem solving: the student can analyse and solve the classical field problems
- Theoretical insight: the student understands the physical phenomena of wave- and diffusion problems and electromagnetism.
- Mathematical skills: the student masters the mathematical techniques of Fourier analysis and Green function methods.
- Skills in the modulation of physical systems: the student masters the skill to formulate classical field problems, to analyse them and to translate them into a mathematical formulation.

- Formulation of the classical field problems: the potential, diffusion and wave equations

- Method of separation of variables

- Eigenvalues and Eigenfuctions

- Fourier analysis

- Green function method

- Electromagnetism: foundations, static fields, EM waves.
