3. Course contents *

In the first part of the course, the student receives background knowledge on the planning organisation, budgeting and financial management of a project. Next, the student is given the opportunity to review academic literature and patents.

Classes are given on the following subjects:

  1. Project identification
  2. Cooperation and communication
  3. Presentation techniques
  4. Academic writing
  5. Patents: principles, use, databases
  6. Project from industry

The students are given a practical task in the broad field of their major during the whole year. The students work in groups of three (exceptionally two or four) as a projectteam. Each team chooses a theme from the subject offered. A selection of previous themes can be found on the website of DuEL and ENdEMIC. The projectteams can be composed multidisciplinary (with students from various specialisations), which then contribute from each team member's own interest. The asssignment is to develop a project and identify the project they will work on themselves, develop the relevant research questions based on literature review, and elaborate the project by contacting enterprises, own experiments and so on. The team specifies its own research questions and decides which sub-questions and hypotheses need to be answered and tested. The research results are presented in a scientific paper (of ca 6 pages all-in) in a template that will be provided, and in a presentation of 15 minutes followed by a defense, in the twelfth or the thirteenth week of the second semester.
