3. Course contents *

The course Structure of Solids aims to give the students an introduction to the description and determination of structures of crystalline materials.  Arre treated in the course: description of crystalline materials in direct and reciprocal space, geometry of crystals, symmetry, point groups, space groups, co¨rdination, close packing, importance of symmetry for Physical properties. At the end an introduction to diffraction is given.

During the exercises, the concepts seen  in the lectures will be applied to materials that are either interesting for technological applications, return in other courses, or are structures belonging to the expected basic knowledge.
