3. Course contents *

This course contains a number of mathematical techniques to solve classic field problems: the wave-, diffusion and potential problems:
- Method of separation of variables
- The Sturm-liouville eigenvalue problem, Fourier analysis, eigenfunctions,
- Spherical and cylindrical symmetry
- Field equations with point source, the inhomogeneous field problem, the Green function method.

In a second part, the techniques are applied to the domain of electromagnetism, in the case of:
- Static fields
- EM waves
- EM radiation
- Electromagnetism in media
