3. Course contents *

The student knows for safety and toxicology important basic concepts and regulations related to the working environment. Topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), safety data sheets, labelling etc.

The student receive an explanation of the relevant indoor and outdoor environment standards (temperature, relative humidity, air and light) due to the context of preventive conservation. The basic instrumental tools for monitoring (measuring and recording) of in- and outdoor environment are explained.

On the basis of examples, attention is also paid to the perception of the climatic environment of a contextualized heritage object and examples of various damage to heritage objects that can be related to the climatic conditions (indoor and outdoor).

Furthermore, the student will be introduced through practical sessions with preventive measures that can be taken for the protection of heritage objects, the manipulation thereof, the support materials and special packaging (organic or inorganic materials).
