3. Course contents *

The course is a series of lectures concerning different scientific themes that are directly impacting on society : evolution, alternative medicine, nuclear power, the Kyoto agreements, mundial population growth, antibiotics resistance, transgene organisms, patent law, ... to name a few. The student is thus confronted with the grey zones in society: no sloganesk shouting, but scientific clarity of thought.

The course starts with an introduction in critical thinking, and discusses the question 'what is science'.

The student selects one of the statements provided by the speakers and comments on it in a scientif opinion paper.
