At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:

- Be able to apply standard numerical techniques, and understand the concepts of sensitivity, stability, and numerical speed of different possible algorithms.

Following topics are covered:

. Errors and numerical computations / floating point numbers

. Solving non-linear equations

. Sets of linear equations

. Interpolation and splines

. Least squares problems

. Numerical integration and differentiation

. ODE's

. PDE's

. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors

. The time-independent Schrodinger equation

The exercises during the computer practica are made in Matlab.

The course has an international dimension.
