3. Course contents *

By (design)exercises, analysis and reflection, students research how to start a design process and explore various basic principles of design. They practice the application of diverse design methods and design skills and research the possibilities, opportunities and limitations of those methods and skills. The central theme is ‘spatiality’: the quantitative and qualitative delimitation of space in relation to a broader spatial context. Students study diverse design critera that relate to spatiality and learn to represent some basics of architectural space through language and visual imagery. The design exercises run parallel with and in relation to an initiation in establishing a frame of reference.
