At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:

- You understand the difference between scalar and vector units. You are able to execute standard operations on vectors (sum, substraction, scalar product, vectorial product) and use those operations to derive formulas (BE2,BE4).
- You are able to apply the general theorems of electricity and magnetism in specific situations (BE2, BE4).
- You are able to analyse and solve the structure of an electric network. You are able to choose the appropiate method in order to solve it. (BE1, BE2, BE4).
- You are able to apply the general theorems of electromagnetism in specific situtations (alternator, motor). You are able to explain how they are constructed and how they work (BE2/BE4).
- You know the characteristics of an alternating current and you are able to solve simple alternating current networks (BE1, BE2, BE4).

Magnetic field of a current (Biot-Savart and Ampère)

Magnetic effects in materials, ferromagnetism

Electromagnetism: induction (voltage and current), self induction. Basic operation of an alternator and transformator. LR-circuit.

Characteristics of periodic functions: AC voltage and current. Simple AC-circuits (LR, LC, LRC).
