At the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:
an active knowledge of
The teaching language of this course is entirely and only in Dutch. The study materials (syllabus) are in Dutch. The syllabus has been (primarily) based on an English handbook. The full references of this English handbook have been given in the section on 'Optional reading'.
a passive knowledge of
A number of words and terms in some figures and tables are in English. But all figures and tables in the syllabus (or course materials) are accompanied by a complete legend in Dutch.
specific prerequisites for this course
The student has the knowledge of several basic chemical principles, a number of physical laws and mathematical concepts. The student knows and understands the laws of thermodynamics, the essentials of carbon chemistry (organic chemistry), principles of inorganic chemistry (oxidation and reduction, pH acidity, etc....). The student knows what are integrals and differentials. The student also knows the basic background of plant and animal sciences.
