3. Course contents *

In the first part of the course different microscopical techniques and their biomedical applications to visualise cells and tissues will be explained. You will be able to interprete the images and will get insight to at least some of the (bio)medical techniques.

In part two, all subcellular structures will be described in detail, as well as the biochemical and physiological processes in which they are involved. Dynamic processes such as endocytosis, exocytosis, brake down of proteins, cell division, cell death,... will be taught.

In the next part, tissues, the most important cell biological aspects of typical cells in different tissues will be related to their function. Also the most import extracellular matrix components will be seen in context. We will deal with epithelium, connective tissues, muscle and nervous tissue.

We will also provide information about blood, blood formation, lymfoid organs, immune system inclusive in the part transport and defence.
