3. Course contents *

Architecture is always thought to be standing somewhere. Designing a building starts from a context. The context is primarily understood as the literal physical context of the site: the ground, the street, the block, the neighborhood, the district or the landscape in which the building is situated.

But the context also means the conditions of the assignment: the ambition of the client, the user, the process, the legal context, ...

Finally, the context also stands for the social and cultural conditions in which a building is erected.

Building also provides the undeveloped space. Every building divides the space around it, into private, collective or public space. The relationships between the various open areas, affects the way of living.

This OLOD focuses on the design from the opportunities and constraints imposed by the environment. The design focuses on a medium-sized building in an (urban) context. A number of clear conditions are imposed, from planning regulations and program. The assignment has a social impact so the student should also reflect on the collective housing concept.
