3. Course contents *

Section Physics:

Momentum, Angular momentum; General rotation; Fluids; Vibration; Waves; Temperature and heat; Imaging (interference, diffraction, refraction).

The knowledge of physics is a sequel to this that in the OLOD "Form & Construction" was taught.

Section Components of Mechanical Products:

During the lectures the components that are important to a mechanical system design are discussed; fasteners (bolts, rivets and shaft-hub connections) and the parts that are important in drive systems axles, bearings and rotary transmissions.

An important part of this section concerns the sizing of the part on the basis of strength- and lifetime calculations, based on standard components.

This section is a direct application of physics, mathematics and materials science and is used in mechanical design assignments.

Section design project:

The students design and make a structure, in specified materials, which can perform a specified action.
