3. Course contents *

Identity 1 (Inge Somers and Caterina Verdickt) exists out of three components: history, theory and ctitique. the timeperiod 1850-1950 will be studied through these three perspectives. The course exists out of an overview of the different style periods, with a specific focus on the interior and situated in the overall social, political, economic and cultural context. Students are introduced in the different styleperiods and learn to distinguish the various sources and texts illuminating these periods. In addition a reserach will be initiated as a preparation for the case study. The subject of this research is analyzing and gathering the specific features of four style periods: Arts & Crafts, Art-Déco, Art Nouveau and Modernism. Throughout the course the student will be offered a solid base on the characteristics, evolutions and changes of the discipline as much as on the style periods and the mutual influence.
