3. Course contents *

This course teaches the molecular genetic basis of different aspects of genetics with as prototype the human: chromosome structure and function, conception and embryonic development, genes in families and populations, genome projects and model organisms, organisation of he human genome, gene expression. Pathogenic mutations, genes and genomes through evolution, genetic markers and mapping of disease genes, identification of Mendelian disease genes, mapping and identification of genes for complex diseases, molecular pathology of diseases, genetic testing of individuals and populations, introduction to functional genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics, survey of methods for genetic manipulation of cells and animals, and new methods for treatment of diseases.
