3. Course contents *

The course starts with general introductions to pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Thereafter the principal features of major drug classes are presented per organ system.
* Introduction to pharmacodynamics: principles of drug - receptor interactions, such as signal transduction, affinity,
   intrinsic activity, different types of antagonism, up- and down regulation, tachyphylaxis.  
* Introduction to pharmacokinetics: absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs, compartments,
   adaptation of doses and dose interval, elimination-t1/2 and bioavailability, ….
* Special: mode of action, effects and side effects, and major indications of the main classes of medicines.
