3. Course contents *

The various themes that were investigated in the three modules Architecture&Culture, Architecture&Environment and Architecture&Construction are surveyed, once again, in the bachelor proof.  Now for the first time in the integral way of a synthesis assignement that incorporates the integration of the complex reality of architecture.

In the design assignement the student will learn to investigate the integral (but clearly defined) complexity of surrounding conditions, to evaluate this and take it in into an architectural proposal.  The student will develop a vision, build up a frame of reference and will translate these into an architectural project.  The design assignment will start from a study of autonomous and abstract aspects of architecture : from, ensemble, typology, structure, skin...only in a second phase the assignment is situated in a confronting context and a complex program is declared.

The student is mentored, step by step, into an advancing and feedbacking thinking and designing process.

When working out a design or analysis in the form of models, students are able to make use of the design model labs at Antwerp University.  Students wishing to make use of machinery or tools shall only be allowed to do so after specific consent of the model lab staff.  In certain cases a student may have to follow a preliminary training to be allowed to handle a specific machine or tool.  Students will at all moments comply with the governing directives and safety measures.
