3. Course contents *

Academic speaking (H. Kloots - 30%)

In these lectures, the basic principles of a successful presentation, dialogue and meeting are discussed. Special attention is paid to the argumentation and the importance of an empathetic attitude.

Applied ethics 2 (J. Van de Vijver - 30%)

This part of the course offers an introduction to the central concepts of contemporary ethics (responsibility, engagement, justice...) and the way in which they can be relevant for, and implemented in, the design practice. On the basis of a variety of sources, the students are offered a framework in which they can articulate a personal position on the moral dimension of design, and on the diverse (individual and societal) ideals that it can help realize.

Image communication 5 (J. Nackaerts / G. Van Echelpoel / S. Martens / B. Perneel - 40%)

This part of the course focuses on the narrative power of images. Both analogue and digital techniques are applied to develop a personal language of image that can be used to interpret a design. Moreover, advanced layout skills are practised. Students learn to prepare a document technically and apply this knowledge in, for example, their reflection portfolios and presentation portfolios.
