This course continues on the content of ‘Chinese: Grammar’ and ‘Taalbeheersing’. The student knows the most important grammatical structures and has a solid insight in syntax and use of different registers. We study the particular function of sentence structure, measure words and particles, and touch upon the historic influence of translation on grammar (and obviously, vice versa). We enlarge the active knowledge of characters to about 1200, which are used in contrastive exercises. The student can explain the structure of characters, words, sentences and paragraphs of semi-authentic texts and dialogues. The Reader for this course provides a bibliography of a number of important linguistic reference works and sites.
