3. Course contents *

First, an overview is given of the requirements of a construction and the principles of forces and stresses are introduced. Then, the different structural elements (slabs, beams, columns, walls, …) and the actions (dead load, live load and climate loads) and the limit states (Ultimate Limit State and Serviceability Limit State) according to the Eurocodes a building has to withstand are treated. Next, the different support methods and the building materials are presented. Also, the performance of horizontal and vertical structural elements are explained. Finally, the performance of a load tracing is explained.
