3. Course contents *

The course starts with a theoretical introduction on library catalogues, databases, search engines etc. At the same time, there will be a basic introduction in the use of the Windows operating system from the point of view of an end-user, as well as on frequently used office software and Windows-based email software. Students learn to critically evaluate data and finally process the data and information using word processing, spreadsheets, database programs and Endnote.

The student will have to show their ability to use the search engines in such a way that within a limited amount of time, a solution can be provided for a well-defined problem in the biomedical field. All this is done interactively and by using electronic post. Via practical exercises and assignments the student will gather the required information and competences. In a last step, students should formulate their answers and hand in their assignments via the electronic learning platform "Blackboard".
