3. Course contents *

You are introduced to the most important components (organs, cells, molecules) of the immune system and you will learn, stepwise, a number of basic concepts of the physiology of the immune system. This course unit follows the book ‘Basic Immunology’ tightly.
During classes, important immunopathological reactions will be discussed as well as auto-immune diseases, allergies, immune deficiencies and basic principles of transplantations and immune answers against cancer.
The characteristics of in vitro applications of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies will get special attention. The in vivo use of antibodies is discussed in the course unit ‘Pharmacology”.
