The course consists of three separate modules.

The first module focuses on the use of existing terminolgy management technologies. Students learn how to recognize terminology in specialised texts, are introduced to existing glossaries and terminology databases on the internet and learn to use existing terminology software management. Although there is a theoretical component, the main focus is on the practice of terminology management: students do various exercises on analysing specialised texts, recognizing terminology, searching translations and creating their own termbases.

The second module focuses on different software suites students can use in the field of computer assisted translation. Suites that will be introduced are SDL Trados, DéjàVu, MemoQ and Memsource. For each of these programmes, students will be introduced to the basic concepts and principles, such as:
- the software interface and its functions;
- creating and using translation memories;
- terminology management;
- translation of texts;
- quality assurance.

After a short theoretical introduction to the different CAT functions and principles the focus shifts to the practical use of the different suites: students will translate texts that are available in English, French and German.

The final module consists of a short introduction to machine translation and post editing.
