3. Course contents *

The course consists of three parts.

A first part is devoted to the media and fundamental rights protection. The focus is on freedom of expression and media freedom in particular. We study not only the sources, rationales, and scope of the freedom of expression, but also the limitations that are permissible.

The topic of the second part is media regulation in Flanders. In this part, we study not only the extensive regulatory framework applicable to the broadcasting media, but also mechanisms of self-regulation as well as the rights of authors and performers.

Lastly, a third part analyses the impact of the European internal market on the media. We focus in particular on the rules and principles of EU law concerning the freedom of competition, the freedom of movement, and data protection.
