3. Course contents *

This course offers a general introduction to the law. Law is considered as a system that strives at the preservation of order in society, in which the rule of law prevails and justice is promoted. It does so by imposing rules and thus creating rights and duties, by having these rules being applied by the courts and by establishing a system of law enforcement. The different sources of the law are examined: legislation, jurisprudence, doctrine, customary law, general principles of law and equity. The actors of the legal system and especially the legislators and the judiciary are described. A part of the course is devoted to the general principles which prevail in the different fields of the law. Not only the objectiv system of the law is presented, but also the different types of subjective rights and duties.
