3. Course contents *

The course provides a general introduction to the historical, social, cultural and political structures of Latin America. The course covers chronologically the key moments of Latin American history, from 1492 to 1992, including the colonization of Latin America and processes of transculturation; the independence and the creation of the nation-state; revolutionary processes and the search for new social and political models (e.g. the plurinational state). Attention is paid to inter-ethnic relations and the concepts of 'colonization', 'coloniality', 'de-coloniality'. Current developments in the continent will be analyzed in the light of history.
