3. Course contents *

This course focuses on adaptation in theatre, film and literature. Adaptations are autonomous works, but this course approaches adaptations as adaptations, i.e. as deliberate reworkings of one or more other works. The course offers theoretical foundations that help to understand what happens when transferring narrative and formal material, from one medium to another, but also within the same medium. We also study the historical development of the relationship between film and literature. The course examines both the textual dimensions of the adaptation process and the production and reception context of adaptations. Several case studies will shed light on the concrete practice of adaptation.
Through lectures, Adaptation 1 provides theoretical foundations and historical insights. This forms the basis for Adaptation 2, which focuses on improving students' analytical and presentation skills.
