3. Course contents *

The English Proficiency 5 course will, a.o., focus on academic writing skills and how to write an efficient literature review. Some of the areas that will be covered include the following:

  • Rhetorical functions (expressing possibility and certainty, introducing a new topic, quoting other people’s work, introducing and concluding a piece of writing, etc.);
  • Writing an efficient research question and not losing sight of it;
  • Commenting on graphs and tables;
  • Using in-text references and writing up a reference list;
  • Academic vocabulary (register awareness, collocations, linking words, etc.).
  • Text editing skills (a systematic approach).

The General English component will tackle a number of professionally-oriented issues such as:

  • analysing and responding to job advertisements,
  • webpage development,
  • professional email communication,
  • professional presentation skills, etc.
