3. Course contents *

After a brief theoretical introduction concerning the characteristics of the genre, some short stories by canonical Latin American writers. Short stroies by Quiroga ("Van Houten"), Carpentier ("El camino de Santiago"), Cortazar ("Casa tomada"),  Ribeyro ("Un domingo cualquiera"), Ferré ("La muñeca menor"), Piglia, Monterroso, are analyzed. The different characteristics of the genre will be examined in each text and there will be a discussion of the different ways the short stories can be read and interpreted. In order to prepare the analysis of each text each student will read and evaluate an article on the selected texts.
