3. Course contents *

The course aims at deepening the grammatical  knowledge of contemporary French, especially the French  syntax. Topics that will be treated: the use of tenses, the transformations of the sentence (negation, interogation, indirect discourse, passive voice), the use of prepositions, the gender of typical academic words, the syntax of the complex sentence and the text( with a focus on the use of connectors and signal words. An extensive and varied exercise package will be provided:traditional and computer-assisted exercises, both in class and in self-study; translation exercises (Dutch-French). At the same time, a repetition of the most important items from French grammar is provided. Attention is also paid to specific problems that concern native Dutch speakers (via the self-study package 'Vous Dites ?!').
