This subject deals with the most important morphological and syntactical structures of modern Portuguese. Special attention is paid to nouns, adjectives, adverbs, articles, pronouns and numbers. In addition, the syntax is also analyzed: conjugation of verbs in the present tense, the difference between the verbs ser and estar and the auxiliary verbs.

Furthermore, all the other tenses of the indicativo and the imperativo are studied. Special attention is paid to the difference between the pretérito perfeito simples and the pretérito imperfeito and the indicativo and the conjuntivo. Furthermore, the following aspects of Portuguese grammar will feature: direct and indirect speech, active and passive voice, prepositions, simple, complex, compound and negative sentences.

The theory is always combined with exercises. Eacht week the students have to prepare exercises which will be marked in class.
