3. Course contents *

The course examines literary representations of different kinds of outsidership (social, sexual, ethnic, romantic, existential,...) in English and American literature. This year's reading list includes Herman Melville's Bartleby, Kate Chopin's The Awakening, Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Hanif Kureishi's The Buddha of Suburbia, Toni Morrison's Beloved, and Tommy Orange's There There.
