During first term, classes are devoted to general informative and/or argumentative (press) texts.
1. Firstly, students learn how texts work as a means of communicating, starting from Jakobson's model of communication. They learn to understand what features are more important in which types of texts and they learn how to make a well-funded comment on those features.
2. In a second stage, students learn reading strategies. They lear how to recognize key words and discourse markers and how to use these in order to make a well-structured and coherent text scheme.
During second term courses go into other types of more specialised texts, that can be argumentative, descriptive, narrative. Attention is given to scientific texts in the humanities and to prose fiction. Starting from the concepts of genre and discourse, students learn how to analyse argumentation, descriptions, narration and narrative perspective.
